Carlos Pelayo of Crescenta Valley High scored 10 goals for the second consecutive game to help defeat Hoover, 20-4, on Wednesday in a Pacific League boys’ water polo opener at Crescenta Valley.

“It’s great to start league play on a positive note,” said Coach Pete Loporchio of Crescenta Valley. “We’re hoping to improve and get better throughout the year as we look for our eighth consecutive [Pacific] League title.”

Robert Curreri added four goals and four assists for the Falcons (11-1) and Mike Hoy made 14 saves.

Sevak Mikaiel had two goals for Hoover (1-2).

Culver City 17, Calabasas 12--Chris Hussain scored with 1:24 remaining in the fourth quarter to force overtime, but the Coyotes went scoreless from there in a nonleague game at Culver City.

Hussain and Josh Heiber each scored four goals for Calabasas (6-6).

GIRLS’ GOLF

Hart 120, Crescenta Valley 146--Alexis Arnold shot par 33 and Sara Jones fired a 34 for the Indians (7-0) in a nonleague match at Vista Valencia Golf Course.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Royal 11, Oak Park 7--Annie Tran, playing No. 1 singles, lost only three games in three sets and the No. 1 doubles unit of Heather Peterson and Katie Horton swept three sets for the Highlanders (5-2) in a nonleague victory at Rancho Simi Community Park.

Simi Valley 10, Quartz Hill 8--Rebecca Hunau, playing No. 2 singles, won the deciding set for the Pioneers (8-1) in a nonleague match at Quartz Hill, beating the Rebels’ No. 1 singles player, Patti Young, 6-4.

Hunau won three sets, dropping only five games.

Brentwood 11, Campbell Hall 7--Melissa Nguyen (24-0) lost only three games in three sets in a Delphic League defeat at Valley College.

Campbell Hall is 5-2, 0-1.

Buckley 15, Crossroads 2--Jessica Shofler lost only two games in a sweep at No. 1 singles for the Griffins (5-1, 1-0) in a Delphic League victory at Lincoln Park in Los Angeles.
