‘Rampage’: From Game to Movie
Continuing the trend of turning video games into films, Columbia Pictures has picked up the option to the film rights for Interplay Entertainment Corp.’s popular and controversial title “Redneck Rampage” for an undisclosed sum.
The game, known for its violent content, tracks the adventures of two brothers and the extreme measures they take to get their prize-winning pig, which has been stolen by aliens.
Interplay Films, the Los Angeles-based unit of the Irvine game publisher, sealed the deal this month, officials said Monday. Tall Trees Productions plans to make the movie. Tall Trees is the production firm of Betty Thomas, director of “Private Parts.” The film is set to be an action-adventure comedy, along the lines of “Men in Black,” according to sources.
