Specht Sets Scoring Record, Cypress Defeats Golden West
Sophomore Jane Specht scored two goals, giving her a school-record 119 career points and leading Cypress to a 12-0 victory over Golden West in an Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer game Friday at Golden West.
Specht broke the record held by Vedda Desatoff, who had 116 points--41 goals and 34 assists--in 1996-97. Specht has 48 goals and 23 assists.
Tymarie Novak scored three goals and Alie Nunez added two to give her a team-leading 34 goals this season for Cypress (21-0, 9-0 in conference).
The Chargers outshot the Rustlers, 25-0.
In another conference game:
Orange Coast 2, Irvine Valley 1--Taylor Yurada scored the game-winning goal off Katie Ogden’s rebound with three minutes left to play.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer:
Santa Ana 3, Fullerton 1--Tomas Serna broke a scoreless game 14 minutes into the second half with his team-leading 29th goal of season for Santa Ana (18-0, 9-0), which clinched at least a tie for the conference title.
Orange Coast 1, Irvine Valley 0--Geno Vitale-Sansosti scored the only goal for Orange Coast (3-13-3, 2-6-2)in the 20th minute. The victory was the Pirates’ first since Oct. 8, when they defeated Cypress College, 2-0.
Irvine Valley is 11-5-1, 6-3.
