Cal Lutheran Continues Reign
Six players scored and the Cal Lutheran women’s soccer team clinched at least a share of its ninth consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title with a 7-0 victory over La Verne on Saturday at Cal Lutheran.
Ashley Scott and Nadine Rajabi each scored once, with Heidi Theis assisting on Scott’s third goal of the season.
Cal Lutheran (12-6, 9-1 in SCIAC play) also received goals from Nicole Imhof, Alix Rucinski, Holly Martin and Rachel Carver. Alia Khan had two assists.
A corner kick was deflected into the net by a La Verne defender to provide an own goal that gave the Regals a 2-0 lead in the 18th minute.
MEN’S SOCCER
Cal Lutheran 1, La Verne 0--Kyle Brazell scored off an assist by Jose Melgoza in the 37th minute in an SCIAC match at Cal Lutheran.
The goal, Brazell’s second for the Kingsmen (10-6, 7-3), came after Ryan Rodriguez of La Verne (4-11, 2-8) was red-carded and ejected in the 27th minute.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Northern Arizona def. Cal State Northridge, 15-12, 10-15, 15-7, 15-8--Laura Szymanski recorded 18 kills and Angie Herrera had 17 for Cal State Northridge, but the Matadors (5-8, 3-7) lost in a Big Sky Conference match at Northridge.
Cal Lutheran def. Whittier, 15-9, 15-13, 9-15, 15-10--Sally Jahraus had 17 kills and 13 digs and Jamie Arnold added 14 kills and 13 digs for Cal Lutheran (15-9, 9-0) in a SCIAC victory at Cal Lutheran.
