Insurers Subpoenaed for Holocaust Data
Florida officials have issued subpoenas to 40 insurance companies that they say have not turned over records on unpaid claims to Holocaust survivors, state Insurance Commissioner Bill Nelson said in Miami. An estimated 15,000 Holocaust survivors are believed to be living in Florida. Last year, a new state law required insurers licensed in Florida to search their records for Holocaust-era policies and links to international insurers that have issued such policies, and to provide that information to the state. A spokesman for Nelson said fines up to $1,000 per day could be levied against companies that do not comply.
