Bhutto’s Husband Is Injured in Jail

Asif Ali Zardari, the jailed husband of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, was slightly injured when he attempted suicide with a broken drinking glass, police said in Karachi. But critics of the government said that he was tortured and alleged that the suicide report was fabricated by Pakistani police. Zardari has been in jail since Bhutto’s government was dismissed in 1996 on corruption charges. Police said he was being interrogated in the 1995 shooting death of a retired judge.
