A Glimpse of the Suite Life

It was only fitting that the first guests at the Century Plaza Hotel and Tower’s 30th-floor Ronald Reagan Suite were Ronald and Nancy Reagan. They had given their approval to the redesign and renaming of the former Plaza Suite, a two-bedroom, two-bath spread in the Century City hotel that goes for $5,400 a night.

The Chhada, Siembieda & Remedios design firm decorated the walls with photographs of the former president documenting his Hollywood and political careers. The living room and den are stocked with Reagan-themed reading material (“The Uncommon Wisdom of Ronald Reagan”). His cologne, Royal Briar, and her favorite perfume, Tuberose, are kept in the bathrooms, and more than a dozen movies starring the great communicator can be popped in the VCR. Complete with bulletproof windows and a dark mahogany dining table that seats 12, the Reagan rooms, according to the hotel, are the largest, most expensive suite in a Southern California hotel.

The Century Plaza’s generic Presidential Suite is clearly no match. It rents for a mere $2,500 a night, and doesn’t boast bowls of Jelly Bellies throughout.
