Responding to public requests to review the safety of the pedestrian crosswalk at Chapman Avenue and Melody Lane, city engineer Warren Siecke advised the Traffic and Safety Commission on Tuesday to install flashing beacon lights to deter speeding motorists. Manuel Ayala, 51, was struck and killed at that intersection by a speeding car Dec. 31. Three other residents have been killed in the crosswalk since 1991, Siecke said.
