Denial of Care Case Settled by Hospital
A Chicago hospital that did nothing to help a young gunshot victim dying just outside its doors has agreed to pay $40,000 to settle a federal complaint. Police said 15-year-old Christopher Sercye was an innocent bystander in a gang shooting last May. He was carried to within steps of Ravens-wood Hospital Medical Center by friends but sat outside for 30 minutes until a police officer brought him inside. He died an hour later. Workers at Ravenswood refused to leave the building to treat him because they thought it would have violated hospital policy.
