VILLA PARK
In keeping with city tradition since 1962, council members unanimously rejected a preliminary proposal Tuesday to receive a $100 a month stipend. “This city was organized on a volunteer basis,” said Mayor Bob Bell. “We have the feeling that things will be better off if we keep doing things that way.” According to City Manager Fred Maley, Villa Park is the only city in Orange County where council members are not paid salaries.
Additionally, the council showed initial support for an average 4% merit increase for six full-time city staffers. The council will vote on a final budget June 22 at 7:30 p.m., City Hall council chambers, 17855 Santiago Blvd.
