Ana Urzua, a seventh-grader at Walton Intermediate School, is one of only 12 teenagers across the nation chosen for the prestigious Fulbright Young Essayist Award. She will attend an expenses-paid awards celebration June 17-19 in Washington, D.C. Ana will accept her award and a savings bond at the John F. Kennedy Performing Arts Center on June 19 in recognition of her play, “The Peace Table.” The play originated as a writing assignment given in her Advanced Language Arts class. It tells the story of a high school girl and two friends who invite to a dinner several people who otherwise would never associate with each other.

Through dinner conversation, the guests discover common interests and succeed in bringing hope and understanding to their diverse community.
