Blaze at Party Kills 37 and Injures 132
A tent caught fire at a pre-wedding party in eastern Saudi Arabia and collapsed on guests, killing 37 women and children and wounding 132 people, newspapers reported. The fire broke out Wednesday night in a tent crowded with women and children attending a henna party--which is held shortly before the wedding--the Al-Jazirah newspaper said. The ceremony took place in the eastern city of Qatif, about 250 miles northeast of the capital, Riyadh, when the burning tent collapsed on the guests, the newspaper said. Twenty children and 17 women were killed. The newspaper did not say if the bride was among the victims.
