Robinson Is Not Moved

King Coach Larry Robinson said Saturday he was largely unmoved by the pronouncement of team President Tim Leiweke that there will be no coaching change before the end of the season.

“It doesn’t affect me whether my job is on the line or not,” Robinson said. “I’ll still do the job until I don’t have a job any more.”

Leiweke came into the locker room after the Kings beat Chicago, 2-1, Friday night and chided those who have talked about the potential firing of Robinson, who is in the final season of a four-year, $3-million contract.

“This is not a deathwatch,” Leiweke said. “Our coaches are going to finish the year. [General Manager Dave Taylor] has determined that. Let our guys have a chance to finish the season. We’re within three or four points of the playoffs.”

The Kings are three points from the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

King center Ray Ferraro will be able to tell the world today about playing in his 1,000th NHL game.

Or at least that part of the world that watches the game on the Fox network.

Ferraro, who has done commentary during the playoffs for ESPN, will wear a microphone in the game against Dallas.

“They’ve got the right guy,” Robinson cracked about the loquacious Ferraro.

The Kings are 2-1-1 on their six-game trip, with wins at Chicago and Detroit, a tie at Calgary and a loss at St. Louis.

But don’t call the trip a success.

“Before we left, I thought the three most important games were at Calgary, St. Louis and Chicago, because those are the teams we are competing with for a playoff spot,” Robinson said. “I thought Detroit and Dallas were bonus games.”
