Edison Grant to Help Buy Electric Boat
A grant from Edison International will help buy an electric-powered boat that will motor visitors over the the waters of Lake Casitas.
The $35,000 pledge from the parent company of Southern California Edison will partially fund the battery-operated, 50-passenger boat, officials said. The International Center for Earth Concerns, an environmental center located a mile from the lake, is administering the project.
Lake Casitas is the water source for more than 85,000 residents of the Ojai Valley and Ventura. Using an electric craft will reduce the amount of gasoline that seeps into the lake and improve water quality, officials said.
The Center for Earth Concerns was formed four years ago to support environmental education programs. It offers symposiums, corporate retreats and workshops to the general public.
