PLACENTIA
Mayor Norman Eckenrode wants the city’s motor division to ride American-made Harley-Davidson motorcycles, but after much discussion of the state-of-the art safety features on Kawasaki motorcycles, the council voted 4 to 1 Tuesday to buy three bikes from VIP Kawasaki for $31,638.16.
“I don’t like spending American tax dollars on imports,” said Eckenrode, who cast the dissenting vote. But Police Chief Daryll Thomann assured the council that the price and maintenance costs for Kawasaki bikes are more competitive than for Harleys. “Some people like Fords, some like Chevys,” he said. “You can’t please everyone.”

Placentia--A story Friday about a Placentia City Council vote on motorcycle purchases gave an incorrect title for Councilman Norman Eckenrode. Also, Placentia Police Capt. Russ Rice’s city affiliation was incorrect in an article Tuesday.
The new bikes replace two damaged in a December accident that injured two officers and another bike that is in need of major repairs.
