Vegetable Pot Pie and Friends

One day, the most appetizing golden pot pies sat on the counter of the cuisine-to-go section at Julienne in San Marino. Nestled amid rosemary sprigs and topped with shredded basil, the pies contained broccoli, green beans, sweet potato and basil mixed with mashed potato and topped with Cheddar cheese.

The beautiful display of good food here made it impossible to leave with just one dish, so the pot pie quickly turned into a meal. Its companions were corn and cilantro soup, a low-fat version made creamy with pureed corn and, for dessert, devastatingly rich bar cookies that are known as graham cracker chewies.
