Angel reliever Mike James, already trying to recover from reconstructive elbow surgery, has suffered another setback, undergoing arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to repair a partial tear in his right shoulder.
James, who hasn’t pitched since May, had been throwing for several weeks as part of his rehabilitation program after last summer’s elbow operation, but a sore shoulder recently forced him back to the sideline.
The Angels were not expecting James, who began last season as closer Troy Percival’s primary set-up man, to return until the All-Star break. Now, the right-hander probably will not pitch again until August.
