Walk Raises $114,000 for Flood Victims
Organizers of a walkathon earlier this month to benefit flood victims in Vietnam say they have collected more than $119,000.
After deducting about $5,000 for operational expenses, they said they will turn over nearly $114,000 to five local Vietnamese religious organizations for delivery to the survivors.
“We feel really good about it,” said Peter Nguyen, one of the organizers. “The community really came together to help out.”
About 3,000 Vietnamese Americans participated in the walkathon, held Dec. 12 in Fountain Valley’s Mile Square Park. The money raised will benefit those affected by Vietnam’s worst flooding in almost 50 years.
