Man, 21, Held on Suspicion of Rape
A Simi Valley man was being held in Ventura County Jail on Sunday on suspicion of raping a woman over the weekend.
Simi Valley police took Steven Serna, 21, into custody early Saturday after they discovered him allegedly sexually assaulting a crying 21-year-old woman in the bedroom of his home in the 5000 block of Alta Street, said Simi Valley Police Sgt. R. Gardner.
Serna was being held in lieu of $110,000 bail. Arraignment was set for this afternoon at Ventura County Municipal Court, a jail clerk said.
Police arrived at Serna’s home at 3:35 a.m. Saturday after an unidentified person in the home called authorities.
Officers said Serna knew the woman, but declined to elaborate on their relationship.
After entering the house, officers said they heard cries coming from a back room. The bedroom door appeared to have been forced open, Gardner said. The woman was treated and released from Simi Valley Hospital.
