Irvine Wins on Herzog’s Goal in Final Second
Jason Herzog scored with one second left to give Irvine a 9-8 victory over Fountain Valley in a nonleague boys’ water polo game Tuesday at Irvine.
Brad Causee’s goal with a minute left in the game tied the score, 8-8, for visiting Fountain Valley. Irvine improves to 3-3.
In other nonleague games:
No. 7 Los Alamitos 10, Laguna Beach 9--Erik Geoffrey scored with 41 seconds left in the game for visiting Los Alamitos (1-0). Dan McKenzie’s goal tied the score, 9-9, for Laguna Beach (2-2) with 2:44 left in the fourth quarter. McKenzie scored five goals.
Troy 12, Valencia 7--Ian Markstrum scored four goals and Adam Jacklin had three for Troy (5-2), which led, 8-1, at halftime.
Tustin 12, Cypress 8--Chris Lancellotti scored five goals for host Tustin (2-1).
In Sunset League field hockey:
Edison 3, Huntington Beach 0--Cathryn Perkins had a hat trick and Haleh Khosrowpour made three saves for Edison (3-0).
Fountain Valley 3, Glendora 1--Jenny Black, Lisa Osmanian and Brita Carlblom each scored for Fountain Valley (3-0-1, 2-0-1).
In Orange/Empire League girls’ golf:
Rosary 131, Western 169--Romina Bollini shot seven-over 42 to lead Rosary (2-1) to victory at Dad Miller. Western is 2-1.
Valencia 114, El Dorado 136--Medalist Nikki Glowin shot one-under 29 to lead host Valencia (4-0, 3-0) at Brea..
In nonleague girls’ golf:
Ocean View 153, Huntington Beach 175--Medalist Nicole Peralta shot 11-over 47 at Meadowlark for Ocean View (2-1). Huntington Beach is 0-2.
In Academy League girls’ volleyball:
Capistrano Valley Christian 3, Orangewood Academy 0--Sarah Wild had 16 aces to lead Capistrano Valley Christian to a 15-11, 15-6, 15-0, victory. Melissa Sands had four aces in the final game for the Eagles (2-3, 1-0).
In Garden Grove League girls’ volleyball:
Bolsa Grande 3, Pacifica 1--Bolsa Grande overcame a 10-1 deficit in the fourth game to seal its 15-10, 15-10, 13-15, 15-10 victory. Debby Baeder had 11 kills for the Matadors (3-1, 1-0). Toria Auela had 12 kills for Pacifica (2-1, 0-1).
In nonleague girls’ volleyball:
Capistrano Valley 3, Fountain Valley 0--Rochelle Currier had 11 kills in the 15-8, 15-3, 15-10 victory for visiting Capistrano Valley (4-0).
Cypress 3, Villa Park 2--Dusty Creager had 25 kills for Cypress (1-2) in the Chargers’ 15-11, 9-15, 8-15, 15-13, 15-6 victory. Kellie Culver had 19 kills for visiting Villa Park (3-1).
No. 4 Dana Hills 3, Aliso Niguel 0--Breegan Mulligan had seven kills and Brittany Baum had 12 assists as Dana Hills won, 15-4, 15-5, 15-6, to improve to 3-0.
Foothill 3, Sunny Hills 1--Danielle Bauer had 26 kills and Becky Radomski had 21 to lead Foothill (3-1) to a 15-13, 9-15, 15-7, 15-5 victory.
Fullerton 3, Orange 2--Junior Lauren Duggins had a career-high 31 kills and Katie Scott had 22 assists in Fullerton’s 7-15, 15-0, 16-14, 5-15, 15-6 victory. Nicole Monk had seven aces for Fullerton (4-0).
La Habra 3, Los Alamitos 0--Keao Burdine had 10 kills and Amanda Siler had 21 assists for La Habra (3-0), which won, 15-8, 15-2, 15-12.
Rosary 3, Katella 1--Jackie Schrader had 11 kills and Beth Ludin had 10 in Rosary’s 15-12, 13-15, 15-3, 15-6 victory. Kelly Cornelius led Katella (1-1) with 10 kills. Rosary is 2-1.
St. Margaret’s 3, Cerritos Whitney 2--Allison Bendush had 31 kills for St. Margaret’s (3-0), which won, 6-15, 15-13, 15-10, 11-15, 15-11.
Valencia 3, El Dorado 0--Katie Etherton had 18 kills and Monika Jackley had 10 for Valencia (2-1), which won, 15-3, 15-7, 15-9.
