Woman Dies After Car Veers Off Freeway
An 84-year-old Laguna Hills woman was pronounced dead Tuesday after her car drifted off the southbound lanes of the San Diego Freeway, went through a perimeter fence and hit a tree.
Witnesses reported the car was traveling about 60 mph when it veered off the freeway south of the San Juan Creek overpass about 1:30 p.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Joan Rivas said.
The woman, who name has not been released pending the notification of family, was taken to Columbia San Clemente Hospital and Medical Center and was pronounced dead.
Although a heart attack is suspected as the cause of the accident and death, coroners officials are investigating.
