Hueneme 32, Ventura 32--Jeff Garcia connected with Keary Colbert on a two-point conversion with 2:12 to play, giving Hueneme a tie on its home field.
Colbert’s catch came after a one-yard touchdown run by Donald Thompson.
Thompson, a senior tailback, rushed for 245 yards and three touchdowns in 21 carries. His other scoring runs covered 77 and 70 yards.
Ventura (4-3-1) scored after each of five Hueneme turnovers, capitalizing with three touchdowns and two field goals.
Colbert’s reception was Hueneme’s only successful conversion.
Two runs failed, a pass failed and a kick failed. The Vikings (3-4-1) also missed a 27-yard field-goal attempt with two seconds to play.
Quarterback Mike Anderson and running back Tyler Ebell each scored two touchdowns for Ventura.
Anderson rushed for 64 yards in 23 carries and Ebell had 24 yards in 13 carries.
Hueneme outgained Ventura 422 yards to 272. The Vikings rushed for 305 yards and Colbert had five receptions for 68 yards.
Grant Newman blocked a punt, setting up Ventura’s first touchdown, a six-yard run by Ebell.
Newman also recovered a fumble that set up another touchdown. Ventura took possession after Hueneme turnovers four times in Viking territory, including twice at the six-yard line.
