Santa Ana’s Offense Gets 632 Yards in Easy Win

Camron King and Spencer Frost each scored two touchdowns to help Santa Ana defeat Golden West, 49-14, in a Mission Conference Central Division football game Saturday at Santa Ana Stadium.

Santa Ana, which compiled 632 total yards, including 424 yards rushing, set a school record with 34 first downs in a game, surpassing the previous record of 32, set in 1980 vs. Rio Hondo.

King, who rushed for 158 yards in 17 carries, scored on runs of 49 and three yards for Santa Ana (3-6, 3-1 in division). Frost ran it in from 11 and three yards out.

Archie Lappin completed 15 of 25 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns for Santa Ana Rob Caston caught nine passes for 140 yards.

J.D. Stern completed 16 of 34 for 297 yards and two touchdowns for Golden West (0-9, 0-4).

In other Central Division games:

Riverside 52, Fullerton 20--Riverside scored 28 third-quarter points to power past host Fullerton. Both teams have 3-6, 2-2 records.

Jason Comeaux rushed 12 times for 122 yards and Andy Whieldon threw three touchdowns on 10 of 14 attempts for 218 yards for Riverside, which had a 45-7 advantage after three quarters.

Jumah Blaylock (55 yards rushing in 11 carries) scored from one yard for the Hornets to cut an early Riverside lead to 10-7.

Palomar 45, Saddleback 7--Joe Hall rushed for 247 yards in 22 carries and scored four touchdowns to lead Palomar (8-1, 4-0). Saddleback (1-8, 1-3) held Hall to 87 yards in first half.

Julio Peraza led Saddleback with 97 yards in 19 carries. Craig Tortorici scored Saddleback’s only touchdown on a 24-yard pass from Nick Tomasello in the second quarter.

Tony Alvarez completed 15 of 29 passes for 213 yards and one touchdown for Palomar.

In the Northern Division:

Mt. San Antonio 39, Orange Coast 9--Eddie Linscomb and Larry Shyne each scored two touchdowns to lead Mt. San Antonio (7-2, 3-1). Linscomb scored on runs of 26 and 12 yards and Shyne scored on 56- and 37-yard receptions from quarterback Rudy Camano.

Camano completed eight of 15 passes for 134 yards.

Ivan Mercer scored on a 20-yard pass from Jared Flint for Orange Coast (3-6, 0-4) and David Yonts added a 26-yard field goal. Flint completed six of 16 passes for 145 yards.

It was the fourth consecutive loss for OCC.

In the Mt. San Antonio men’s basketball tournament:

Mt. San Antonio 72, Fullerton 67--Jerry McNair scored 17 points for the Hornets (1-1) in a semifinal loss.

Cypress 45, Los Angeles City 33--Chris Killens scored 16 points and Ryan Tenpas had 14 rebounds for Cypress (1-1) in a consolation game.

In a nonconference game:

Orange Coast 60, Rio Hondo 48--Terrail Zoller had 11 points and 12 rebounds for Orange Coast (1-0), which led, 36-27, at the half.

In the Chaffey women’s basketball tournament semifinals:

Orange Coast 55, Ventura 54--Chantay Peyton made a baseline jumper with three seconds remaining to help Orange Coast (2-0) advance to the final. Erin Tomlinson led the Pirates with 13 points, Ani Saraydarian added 11 and Natalie Weeks had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Orange Coast will play in the final at 3 today.

In the Reno tournament:

De Anza 89, Golden West 58--Kelly Medlen had 19 points and eight rebounds for Golden West (0-2) in a consolation game.

In a nonconference game:

Canyons 71, Cypress 53--Angela Garrett had 16 points for visiting Cypress, which made 25 of 36 free throws.

In the first round of the Southern California men’s soccer playoffs:

Compton 1, Irvine Valley 0--Edney Andrews scored from eight yards in the 53rd minute for visiting Compton (10-3-4). Miljan Soskic had three saves for Irvine Valley (18-4-1).

San Diego 2, Fullerton 1--Derek Gildner scored a second-half goal for Fullerton (12-6-4), which gave up the deciding goal on an own goal in the 44th minute.

In the first round of the Southern California women’s soccer playoffs:

Cuesta 1, Orange Coast 0--Brie Belmonte scored the winning goal in the 40th minute for Cuesta (16-3-5).

Viviana Pereychica and Jennifer Arevalos each had two saves for Orange Coast (14-6-2).
