Billy Bob Thornton, Hank Azaria and Kelly Lynch star in “Homegrown,” a comedy-thriller about lovable pot farmers who are ill-prepared to deal with buyers for their in-demand product. Written by Nicholas Kazan and director Stephen Gyllenhaal. Opening Friday in general release.

Jerry Ross/George Abbott classic, “The Pajama Game,” as Reprise! Broadway’s Best in Concert launches its second season of semi-staged musicals at UCLA’s Freud Playhouse on Wednesday.

MUSIC

Closing the U.S. leg of her current world tour playing the 10 Beethoven sonatas with pianist Lambert Orkis, German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter appears in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion Wednesday. Her program here lists the Sonatas Nos. 1, 5 (“Spring”) and 9 (“Kreutzer”).

DANCE

Call it “Bill and Mark’s Southland Adventure,” with Bill T. Jones staging a new, full-evening work (“We Set Out Early . . .”) at Royce Hall, UCLA, on Friday and Saturday, while fellow modernist Mark Morris brings his Dance Group, above, to the Irvine Barclay Theatre from Thursday to Saturday.

JAZZ

He originally became famous as John Coltrane’s pianist but McCoy Tyner has been a major force himself since the early 1960s. A powerful improviser whose percussive yet lyrical style has been quite influential, Tyner appears Wednesday through next Sunday at Catalina Bar & Grill with his longtime trio.

Erykah Badu announced her arrival as one of the top newcomers in all of pop music with last year’s chart-topping album “Baduizm” and the engaging single “On & On.” The Grammy-winning R&B; singer-songwriter plays tonight and Monday at the Greek Theatre in Griffith Park.

Tony Award-winning funny man Nathan Lane and British comic Lee Evans nearly succeed in becoming a modern-day Laurel and Hardy in the slapstick comedy “Mouse Hunt.” They play brainless brothers who are outwitted by a very smart mouse. The farce arrives Tuesday on video.
