Punishment Given Out for Recent Incidents

Philadelphia 76er Coach Larry Brown and two of his players--forward Derrick Coleman and guard Allen Iverson--were fined a total of $15,000 and two Toronto Raptors were suspended and fined Friday by the NBA in separate incidents.

Raptor forwards Gary Trent and Marcus Camby were suspended for leaving the bench during a fight in Thursday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Trent was also fined $5,000 and Camby assessed a $2,500 penalty.

Both players, who will sit out Sunday’s game against Orlando, left the bench during an altercation between Cleveland’s Danny Ferry and Toronto’s John Wallace at the end of the third quarter. The Cavaliers won the game, 97-96.

Brown and Coleman were fined $6,000 each and Iverson $3,000 for criticizing the referees after Philadelphia’s 91-86 loss to New Jersey Wednesday.

The sale of the Toronto Raptors to Maple Leaf Gardens Ltd. received approval from the NBA.

The NBA said the deal, announced Feb. 12, was unanimously approved by the board of governors.

Raptors majority owner Allan Slaight and minority owner Bank of Nova Scotia sold their interests in the franchise and the Air Canada Center, which is currently under construction, to Maple Leaf Gardens for $467 million.

The new arena, which is being revamped so it can also house the NHL Maple Leafs, is expected to be completed in February 1999.

The Seattle SuperSonics activated guard-forward David Wingate from the injured list and will not to re-sign former UCLA center George Zidek for the rest of the season.

Zidek played under two 10-day contracts, appearing in 12 games and averaging 2.4 points and 1.4 rebounds.
