Public Meeting to Discuss Safety in Marine Park Area
A newly formed neighborhood group will hold a meeting Sunday with representatives of the Santa Monica Police Department to discuss public safety in the Marine Park area.
Arlene Torres, a coordinator of the Marine Park Area Residents, said the meeting was called by neighbors who are concerned about a recent stabbing near the park, which is on Dewey Street west of 16th Street.
Torres said residents will ask police for crime statistics about their neighborhood, which borders Los Angeles. Neighbors have complained of drug dealing and prostitution, she said, and they plan to ask city officials to install better lighting.
The meeting will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Marine Park, 1406 Marine St.
