Letters Planned to Protest CSUN Stadium
A homeowners group opposed to the planned construction of a 15,000-seat football stadium at Cal State Northridge intends to submit hundreds of protest letters to the university today, organizers said.
“Would you like a football stadium in your frontyard with all the traffic and noise pollution along with that?” said Pat Lopresti, a representative of the Lindley West Coalition, a group of homeowners who live west of Lindley Avenue in Northridge.
Lopresti said the coalition hopes to send between 400 and 500 letters to Frank Wein, director of North Campus development.
The letters are in response to a draft environmental impact report that includes construction of a football stadium on one of two proposed sites--Lindley Avenue and Lassen Street or Lindley Avenue and Halsted Street.
On Feb. 4, the report was published for public review and comment. As required by state law, the university established a 45-day review period for public comment.
The coalition requested an extension of the 45-day review period at a public hearing Feb. 25. However, the university did not extend the review period, which ends today.
Now the plan goes before the CSU Board of Trustees on May 13 at a public hearing at the office of the chancellor in Long Beach.
