200 Find Their Flames at Sale of Firefighter Calendar
The line wound out of the Kenneth Hahn County Hall of Administration where more than 200 people--an overwhelming number of them young women--patiently waited for their chance to pick up a hot item: a calendar featuring city and county firefighters.
Seven of the 12 firefighters whose photos grace the pages were on hand to autograph the calendars that benefit the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation in Canoga Park.
Alisa was an 8-year-old girl who died of burns after flames from a backyard barbecue soared out of control. The foundation, formed in 1971 shortly after she died, is dedicated to helping burn victims and their families, and to teaching fire prevention.
“Most of the time firefighters see people in crisis, but this was a good time because they meet the public in such a friendly atmosphere,” said Chelise Jordan, who organized Thursday’s autograph session.
Calendars are available for $15 at the foundation, 20944 Sherman Way, Suite 115, Canoga Park 91303.
