Mater Dei to Face Concord De La Salle at Edison Field
The first high school football game at Edison Field will feature two of the most prominent programs in the country.
Mater Dei and Concord De La Salle have agreed to play their Sept. 26 game at Edison Field, Mater Dei Athletic Director Gary McKnight said Wednesday.
“I think a game of this magnitude deserves a site like that,” McKnight said.
By scheduling the game on a Saturday night, allowing fans of other prep programs to attend without missing their school’s Thursday or Friday game, McKnight said he hopes to draw at least 20,000 to the 45,050-seat stadium.
De La Salle attracted national attention last year by extending its winning streak to 76 games, breaking the old record of 72 set by Hudson (Mich.) High.
The schools will play at an undetermined Bay Area site in 1999.
