Lithuania Defeats U.S.
Associated Press
ATHENS — The U.S. basketball team was defeated by Lithuania, 84-82, in the first round of the world championships.
The last time the U.S. men lost in a world championships or Olympics was in the 1990 world championships--pre-Dream Team--to Yugoslavia, 99-91, in the semifinals. Since then, the U.S. had won 26 games.
Former Seton Hall player Arturas Karnisovas led Lithuania with 29 points.
