SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Bargain hunters welcome July for the markdowns on just about everything pertaining to summer. This holiday weekend marks the start of big savings.

A stop at Woodland Hills Camera this week can give you some deals on Canon products you won’t find elsewhere, such as the new Elph by Canon, which retails for around $350, but here is $278. Or there’s Elph’s little brother, Elph 10, which the store sells for $49.95 rather than the $70 some places ask.

The Canon ES 180 video camera carries a tag at other stores of $450 to $500, but the price here is $395 and there’s a one-year warranty on parts and labor. Woodland Hills Camera, 5348 Topanga Canyon Blvd. (818) 347-2270. (Closed Saturday and Sunday.)

A Red, White & Blue Sale is going on at Collectors Eye with 20% off vintage jewelry--in silver, red and blue. This includes marcasite, American Indian and old Mexican pieces and anything with red or blue stones. Collectors Eye, 21435 Sherman Way, Canoga Park. (818) 347-9343. (Closed Saturday, open Sunday.)

Jill Kirsh color-coordinated makeup kits come in four color groups based on hair color. These usually sell for $59.95 but four Target stores sell them for $29.95. Available at Target in Culver City, Long Beach, North Hollywood and Pasadena. (Open Saturday and Sunday.)

If you’d rather loll around the pool this summer and stay out of the malls, get out your J. Peterman Co. catalog. Men’s Gatsby shirts that are usually $83 are $39, and the classic men’s vintage pullover at $39 is $44 cheaper than the regular price.

Women’s silk crepe de chine blouses are usually $98 but the summer sale has them reduced to $49. If you want to see the items, go to the Peterman warehouse outlet in the Camarillo Premium Outlet Mall, where reductions of catalog overruns start at 20% off on first-quality merchandise and 30% off on irregulars. To get the catalog, call (800) 231-7341. The outlet is at 950 Camarillo Center Drive; (805) 445-9336. (Open Saturday and Sunday.)

If your lolling furniture has seen better days, Patio Factory has some good deals, particularly the table and four chairs set that usually sells for around $800 but is only $399. Or if it’s only chair cushions you need, those selling for $29.95 are a better quality than some selling for $40 elsewhere. Patio Factory, 11274 Ventura Blvd., Studio City; (818) 508-8355. (Open Saturday and Sunday.)
