Boomers
Just because you’re old enough to remember black-and-white TV doesn’t mean you’re too old for a night on the town. Here are some places where you’ll feel comfortable.
Coconut Club, 9876 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills, (310) 285-1358. Tastefully elegant, with the memory of Hollywood’s golden years fresh in its design, Merv Griffin’s Coconut Club at the Beverly Hilton is a choice, upscale nightspot to commingle to the music of big bands and live Latin music (Friday and Saturday). 21 and over, $20 cover (includes admission to Chimps Cigar Club).
Cozy’s Bar & Grill, 14058 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks, (818) 986-6000. Hard to believe that this happening blues club is located in the heart of suburban L.A., but that’s exactly what makes it work so well: good bands, nice employees, a couple of pool tables without the fuss of valet parking and Tinseltown traffic. 21 and over, cover varies.
Garden of Eden, 7080 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, (213) 465-3336. Although populated with young Hollywood, Garden of Eden is also a spot of choice for those trying to sow their wild oats a second time around. 21 and over, cover varies.
The Gate, 643 N. La Cienega Blvd., West Hollywood, (310) 289-8808. One very nice Gate truism: This decorated nightspot is where a gal won’t have to look far to find a guy willing to buy her a drink. 21 and over, cover varies (dancing Wednesday, Friday and Saturday).
House of Blues, 8430 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, (213) 848-5100. Say what you will about this infamous addition to the Sunset Strip, but if you’ve got a hankering for loud music, spicy food and rooms that shimmer with art and color, you’re not alone (the House of Blues continues to inspire love connections year-round, with its fancy-schmancy Foundation Room at the center of the steamy storm). Age and cover vary.
