Dos Pueblos Downs Burroughs
Alex Jenkins, Dan Hoefer and ShanTay Legans combined for 57 points to lead Dos Pueblos High to a 75-65 victory over Burroughs in a Division II-A quarterfinal Friday at Santa Barbara High.
Jenkins, who had 20 points, sank a three-point basket with 1:27 remaining in the second quarter, giving Dos Pueblos (24-4), the Channel League champion, a 36-33 lead that they never relinquished.
Legans had 18 points and eight assists, and Hoefer had 19 points, including nine in the third quarter.
Burroughs (19-10) was paced by Jeremy Cartee, who had 18 points, and Kevin Krose, who had 17.
Burroughs built a 19-17 first-period lead on the strength of Krose’s 11-point quarter, which included three three-point baskets in as many attempts.
Cartee had 16 points, four rebounds and three assists in the first half, helping the Indians stay within 40-37 at halftime.
“We didn’t have the answer for Legans. He hit the big shots and found the open people,” Burroughs Coach Art Sullivan said.
Glen Adriatico had 13 points and Preston Tucker added eight points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.
