Pimm Out as Coach at UCSB

Jerry Pimm, the winningest coach in UC Santa Barbara history, is stepping down and will move into the school’s athletic administration office as an assistant to Athletic Director Gary Cunningham.

Pimm’s team takes a 4-11 Big West Conference record and 7-18 overall mark into tonight’s regular-season finale against Cal State Fullerton.

The Gauchos, who have lost seven games in a row, are assured of the poorest record in Pimm’s tenure as coach.

Pimm, 59, is finishing his 15th season as UC Santa Barbara’s coach after nine years at Utah. His Gaucho teams have a 222-201 record, and his teams at Utah were 173-86, giving him an overall record of 395-287.

UC Santa Barbara hasn’t finished above .500 since the 1992-93 season, when it was 18-11. The Gauchos were 12-15 last season.

California Coach Marianne Stanley, who drew national attention with her gender discrimination lawsuit, has been accused of using a racial slur during an argument at a school gym.

Ricky Marciano says in a lawsuit that he was playing a pickup game at the UC Recreational Sports Facility when Stanley asked him to leave the court before his time was up. When he said no, she used a racial slur and lunged at him and had to be restrained by several players, said the complaint, filed Thursday.

Marciano is black. Stanley, whose lawsuit alleging sex discrimination against USC was dismissed in 1995, is white.
