3 Schools Will Start Year-Round Schedules
Trustees adopted several measures this week, including year-round schedules for three schools, in an effort to deal with overcrowded classrooms and an expected growth in enrollment.
Starting July 1, California Elementary, Handy Elementary and Portola Middle School will begin multitrack, year-round schedules--a 60-day on, 20-day off rotation.
Fletcher and La Veta elementary schools will remain on traditional schedules, with two portables placed at La Veta to ensure 20-student class sizes.
Fairhaven and Sycamore will continue to handle students in kindergarten through sixth grades.
Four portable classrooms will be placed at Canyon Rim Elementary for fifth-grade classes.
The board also agreed to reopen Olive Elementary by September, 1999, with renovation costs limited to $3 million.
Crescent Intermediate will reopen as Vista Del Rio Middle School July 1, 1999.
Boundary changes also were approved that will bring Serrano and Villa Park elementary students closer to their neighborhood schools.
Current students won’t be affected.
