In an effort to help a troubled neighborhood, the city Redevelopment Agency on Monday will consider a proposal aimed at improving living conditions in the Minnie Street area.

The city expects to spend more than $1 million in housing funds for landscaping, fencing and other improvements in the neighborhood, said Carol Berg, city community development district manager.

Construction could start this fall.

The City Council, acting as the Redevelopment Agency, will vote on a $160,000 contract with Santa Ana-based URS Greiner Inc. to draw up construction plans.

The improvements are part of a multi-pronged approach to improving the area.

A 1995 police substation was one step, and proposed deeds requiring property owners to maintain the area are another.
