An $80-Million Debut

Broadcom Corp. received total proceeds of $80.8 million from its initial public offering of 4.5 million shares of common stock, which were priced at $24 a share.

The stock surged as high as $70 a share last week during the first day of trading in the hottest stock-market debut of the year.

Shares of the Irvine company, which designs chips that speed Internet transmissions over ordinary phone and television lines, rose $3.75 Tuesday to close at $55.25 on the Nasdaq market.
