Ray Bardone
Orange Coast, freshman
Track and Field
Bardone, from Edison High, proved his many talents by winning the Southern California decathlon title last week. He finished with 5,931 points and was 129 points ahead of the second-place finisher. His best events were the long jump (22 feet 2 1/2 inches) and the javelin (176-0). He will go for the state title May 15-16 at Citrus College.
Track & Field
Greg Nichols
* Fullerton, sophomore. He finished second in the Southern California decathlon championship.
Reanna Mendoza
Cypress, sophomore
Softball
Mendoza, a pitcher, came to Cypress this spring after playing her freshman season at Cerritos. She’s had no trouble adapting to her new team. Mendoza won three games last week to improve to 15-0. In 18 innings, she gave up 10 hits, walked one and struck out five. She earned the co-most valuable player award as Cypress won the Ventura tournament.
Softball
Anne Skidmore
* Saddleback, freshman. She was six for nine, including a double and triple, as the Gauchos won five of six games.
