Rescued Whale
Re “Rescued Whale .. Begins Long Journey Home,” April 1:
I am all in favor of saving whales and all other species, endangered or otherwise. But the money spent on J.J. over the past 14 months could have been used to save another endangered species: older workers, like myself.
I am a writer, and out of work because of budget restrictions. I, and many others like me, could survive if we could have earned just a fraction of the money used to save one whale. I did not beach myself, nor do I require nourishment, other than encouragement to use my creative talents and get paid a reasonable sum for my output. .. is now frolicking with her fellows. I am floundering in an uneasy sea, unwanted and tossed aside. There is not a shortage of money, just a misguided sense of priorities in which some humans have to suffer to “save” other species.
