Woman Shot in Scuffle Over Car
BURBANK — A 26-year-old woman was shot outside her apartment building Tuesday morning after she got into a scuffle with several men who apparently were trying to steal her car, authorities said.
Monica Carter was attempting to get into her BMW Z3 parked at the curb outside an apartment complex in the 300 block of North Screenland Drive about 7 a.m. when four men wearing gloves approached her, said Burbank Police Lt. Jay Farrand. A scuffle ensued and one of the men shot Carter in the hip.
The men dumped out the contents of Carter’s purse, apparently searching for her keys, but didn’t immediately find them and fled, Farrand said.
Carter was taken to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, where she was treated and released, hospital officials said.
Someone else had reported seeing the same men loitering in the building’s parking structure about 6:15 a.m., Farrand said. Police went to the structure to investigate but found no one.
