School Board to Meet to Discuss Year’s Goals
As is its custom at the beginning of each school year, the board of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District meets today to discuss the things it would like to accomplish.
The topics will include several that have been debated extensively over the last couple of years, such as the district’s policy regarding drugs and alcohol. Some parents think the automatic 90-day transfer to another district school is too harsh for students who have been caught drinking or using drugs on campus.
Other familiar topics are how the district will redraw the boundaries for several elementary schools and whether they will reopen more schools to accommodate an anticipated boom in enrollment.
The board meets at 6 tonight at the new district headquarters, 2985 Bear St., Costa Mesa. Information: (714) 424-5000.
