Mall Donates $10,000 to Senior Center
South Coast Plaza and parent company Segerstrom & Sons will donate $10,000 to the Costa Mesa Senior Center to help launch an annual fund-raiser.
The gift is seed money for a $100,000 goal. The monthlong campaign is being run, in part, by senior center board member and former Mayor Mary Hornbuckle.
The Costa Mesa Senior Center is the only independent, nonprofit senior center in Orange County. It relies heavily on donations, although the city matches the gifts.
More than 300 seniors a day are served by the center at 695 W. 19th St., which provides counseling, housing, employment, tax, legal and insurance assistance, health exams, crisis intervention and noontime meals.
