Schumaker Commits to Loyola Marymount

Aliso Niguel shortstop Skip Schumaker has orally committed to Loyola Marymount, Wolverine baseball Coach Mike Chapman said Thursday.

Schumaker led the county with a .593 average last season.

The Senior 140 League, a tennis doubles league in which the ages of the two partners must add up to 140 or more, will crown its second annual champion this weekend at the Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club in Newport Beach.

The semifinals begin at 1 p.m. Saturday with the Balboa Bay Club facing the Newport Beach Tennis Club and Park Newport meeting the Racquet Club of Irvine. The finals begin at 1 p.m. Sunday.

During the nine-month season the teams played once a month, with each of the four doubles teams playing one set against the opposing club’s four teams.

The league’s oldest player is the Bay Club’s Howard Daum, 84, who will team with the youngest, Bill Popejoy, 59, for the upcoming tournament.
