Passenger Is Killed in Freeway Shooting
A car-to-car shooting early Thursday morning on the northbound Hollywood Freeway killed an 18-year-old male passenger in one of the vehicles, police said.
The victim was shot in the head about 2 a.m. by a gunman in a burgundy Honda occupied by four males, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Venus Mason of the Rampart station. He was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where he died.
“It was a senseless shooting,” Mason said.
The ensuing investigation prompted a two-hour closure of the northbound lanes of the freeway at Vermont Avenue, where traffic was channeled off the freeway and around the shooting scene, said California Highway Patrol Officer Bob Weaver.
Anyone with information on the shooting can call Rampart detectives at (213) 207-2060.
