Marina Scores 4 Touchdowns in 7 Minutes
TUSTIN — Marina scored four touchdowns in a seven-minute span in the fourth quarter and defeated Foothill, 49-13, in a nonleague game Thursday at Tustin High.
Trailing for most of the game, Foothill had closed the gap to 21-13 on the last play of the third quarter when Robbie Koster connected with Chad Concolino for a 30-yard scoring play.
But Marina (4-1) quickly regained control, capitalizing on a pair of interceptions and a 45-yard touchdown run by Steve Franks to put the game out of reach.
Scot Austin and Jesse Keith added scoring runs of 10 and 12 yards, respectively.
Foothill (1-4) took an early first quarter lead when Koster found Matt Hall open across the middle for a 52-yard touchdown pass.
The Vikings struck back on the next possession with a long touchdown pass of their own. Austin threw a perfect strike to Ryan Daguro for a 75-yard scoring play that tied the score, 7-7.
Marina broke the tie with Ray Mietkiewicz’s eight yard touchdown run with 3:34 left in the first half. Mietkiewicz led all rushers gaining 83 yards in 11 carries. The sophomore running back also added a one-yard touchdown run during the Vikings’ fourth-quarter scoring blitz.
Daguro, who caught three passes for 114 yards, made it, 21-7, at halftime when he caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Koster.
Koster paced the Knights’ offense, rushing for 59 yards and completing 11 of 25 pass attempts for 200 yards.
The junior quarterback closed out the scoring late in the final quarter when he found Matt Hall for a 20-yard touchdown pass with 37 seconds to play. He added a two-point conversion pass to Joshua Harvey.
