The first round of the Southern Section Division I playoffs start today with 10 county teams in the hunt for the title. Sea View League champion Newport Harbor hosts the league’s third-place finisher, El Toro. The Sailors have two victories over the Chargers, but El Toro has played tough the last part of the season. Another game that figures to be close is Los Angeles Loyola at eighth-ranked Villa Park. Both games start at 3:15 p.m.

Foothill, ranked first in the county and seeded second behind Long Beach Wilson in Division I, plays Long Beach Poly starting at 6:15 p.m. at Tustin High.

The first round of the Division II playoffs, which feature all-county teams, is Friday. A tight match is expected between host El Dorado and Marina, which finished second in their respective leagues. Top-seeded Los Alamitos hosts Hacienda Heights Los Altos, which beat Western, 9-8, in a wild-card game Tuesday. Both games start at 3:15 p.m. In a Division VI first-round game Friday, second-seeded Brea Olinda hosts Cerritos at 3:15 p.m.
