KINGS REPORT / NOTES : Road Doesn’t Get Any Easier

The Kings do not have long to savor their 5-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Friday--their first in nine games against the defending Stanley Cup champions--because they will play the New York Islanders tonight at Nassau Coliseum.

The Kings know that if they are to stay close to other Pacific Division teams, they have to prove they’re good and tough enough to win on the road.

“Back-to-back games are tough, and the second one is always tougher,” goaltender Stephane Fiset said after making 27 saves Friday. “We just have to prepare and be ready to play [in New York]. We can’t [slip]. We have to play like we did [Friday against Detroit]. We have to stay focused.”

In defeating Detroit, the Kings won their first game against a Western Conference opponent in four tries. The Kings are 3-1-1 in their last five games and their penalty-killing unit has not given up a goal in the last 20 chances.
