Marte Helps JetHawks Douse Blaze
Left-hander Damaso Marte struck out five over 7 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs, and the Lancaster JetHawks defeated the Bakersfield Blaze, 6-2, Sunday night in front of 4,325 at the Hangar.
Marte (2-6) gave up eight hits and didn’t walk anyone. He cruised until Mike Glendenning, the former Crespi High and Pierce College standout, hit a one-out home run in the seventh to pull Bakersfield within 4-1.
It was Glendenning’s 16th home run.
Sean Spencer pitched the final 1 1/3 innings, yielding one hit and striking out two, to pick up his sixth save.
The JetHawks pounded 14 hits, including three by center fielder Joe Mathis, who hit his eighth triple. Designated hitter Jason Regan was two for two with a double and two runs batted in.
Bakersfield starter Bill Malloy (2-5) gave up 11 hits in six innings.
