Royal High will try to become the first boys’ volleyball team in the region to win a Southern Section major-division title tonight at 7 when it plays fourth-seeded Esperanza (18-1) in the Division I championship match at Cypress College.
The second-seeded Highlanders (20-0) have won two Division II and two Division III titles. No area team has won a title at the highest level since Southern Section volleyball began in 1974.
Today’s other regional events:
Boys’ tennis: At 10:30 a.m., Southern Section individual championships, semifinals and finals, at Seacliff Tennis Club in Huntington Beach.
American Legion baseball: At 10 a.m., Ventura vs. Ojai at Ventura College (doubleheader), Camarillo A vs. Moorpark at Moorpark College (doubleheader), Simi Valley vs. Camarillo B at Camarillo High (doubleheader), Conejo Knights vs. Royal at Royal High (doubleheader), Westlake vs. Newbury Park at Newbury Park High (doubleheader). At 7 p.m., Verdugo Hills vs. Burbank North at Burbank High.
