Matadors Sweep Past DePaul, 3-1 and 3-2
Chelo Lopez provided the big hits and Tara Glaister made the big pitches and Cal State Northridge swept DePaul, 3-1 and 3-2, on Wednesday, in a softball doubleheader at Northridge.
Glaister (9-8), a sophomore, earned her second save by getting the last two outs of the first game. She pitched a seven-hitter in the second game, striking out seven.
Junior first baseman Lopez hit home runs in both games for the Matadors (16-12-2).
MEN’S TENNIS
Pepperdine 5, Harvard 2--Anthony Ross defeated Josh Hausman at No. 6 singles and teamed with Troy Budgen to defeat Hausman and Kunj Majmudar at No. 2 doubles for the ninth-ranked Waves (16-4) in a nonconference match at home.
Harvard (7-4) is ranked 34th in the nation.
BASEBALL
Canyons 16, Cerritos 12--Hiram Damwijk singled home the tying and go-ahead runs in a six-run seventh inning for the Cougars (20-7) at the Hancock tournament in Santa Maria.
The game was called after seven innings due to a time limit.
Jesse Daggett gave Canyons a 9-4 lead in the fourth inning with a grand slam.
Wayne Mahaffey pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits.
Canyons 5, Cuesta 4--Starter Ricky Engbrecht gave up three runs, two earned, and five hits in 5 2/3 innings for Canyons (19-7) at the Hancock tournament.
Engbrecht struck out three and walked two.
Jesse Daggett had two hits and two runs batted in, and Craig Hennes had three hits for Canyons.
The Master’s 8, Linfield 7--Garrick Moss squeezed home the winning run in the 11th inning after the Mustangs (13-19) loaded the bases on two walks and an error in the nonconference game at Newhall.
